Support Menen

Menen Teferi

Menen Teferi lives in Kechene, Ethiopia, just outside of the capital, Addis Ababa. Menen is an AIDS orphan. She and her brother now live with their grandmother and go to school at the Light and Life Study Center. Area 51 supports Menen through monthly donations through International Childcare Ministries a ministry of the Free Methodist Church.

Menen is 6 years old. She like swinging on the swings and playing with dolls. She sent us a picture of her and her friends playing soccer.

If you would like to help us support Menen, contact our church at (509) 926-2673. You can also support a child by going to the ICC website

Ethiopia

Ethiopia is one of the poorest nations in the world. It is also one of the oldest. Ethiopia is the only African nation to maintain it's independance from colonial rule.

The Koffa region of Ethiopia is also the original home of the coffee bean, and nearly a quarter of the 75 million people in Ethiopia work in the coffee industry.

Kechene, Menen's home, is home to many potters and weavers, professions considered lowly in Ethiopian society, so the area suffers from much prejudice and poverty, even by Ethiopian standards.
